New Kid Next Door premiered at the Anchorage East High School
Anchorage, Alaska, October 2019. Directed by Jill Bess Neimeyer.
In the play, Simone and Kevin are stuck with the awkward - and increasingly unsettling - new neighbor kid Razielle. As they talk about the Fourth and plans for the day, the two siblings gradually come to realize that this kid is more than just creepy, they may not even be human - with disastrous consequences neither of them could foresee.
Why this play?
New Kid Next Door was originally written for a collection of high school horror plays that YouthPLAYS was putting together, along with Ashes. Ashes is published by YouthPLAYS, but I was still trying to get the tone of this one right when the deadline screamed past me and vanished into the distance with a mournful wail. It was in rewrites for the first production that I think I finally got it to work.

New Kid Next Door is now online as a radio play by Gather by the Ghostlight Podcast, hosted by Jonathan Cook, performed by Luke Romagnoli, Kelsie Johnson, and Sophie Cook. The radio script is included in their new collection!

New Kid Next Door had its US premiere, alongside Ashes, as part of East Anchorage High School's Terrifying Tales halloween show in October of 2019.
